IMG-20180903-WA0038Despite the fact that provision of security is a national government function, insecurity affects Siaya directly as a County hence the local and national governments must continuously work together on security matters according to His Excellency Cornel Rasanga Amoth, Siaya Governor.
The Governor made this remarks Monday when Kenyas Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi paid him a courtesy call at his Office at The County Headquarters.
Dr. Matiangi and Inspector General Boinnet were here in Siaya most of today for a series of security related activities including the opening of National Government Constituency Development Fund supported  Tingwangi Police Post, a regional security meeting with National Government Administrators and uplifting of Senator Obama Secondary School were also welcomed by Siaya Senator Hon. James Orengo, Alego Usonga MP Hon. Samwel Atandi and several security officials and political leaders. Also present was Homabay Women Representative Hon. Gladys Wanga.
In light of the persistent insecurity incidences along Lake Victoria, the Governor also advised during this encounter that, standardized policy and laws regulating the conduct of fishermen in Lake Victoria from both Kenya and Uganda must be passed and implemented moving forward.
The Governor also emphasized to the Cabinet Secretary that standardised taxation for all fishermen irrespective of country of origin will go along way in curbing conflicts along Lake Victoria and that enhancement of joint border patrol forces to curb any insecurity incidences should be prioritised by providing security patrol boats to security officials with the Lake belt.
That the National Government should explore methods of addressing piracy incidences in Lake Victoria that has led to fishermen losing their gears, equipment and fish thus rendering them destitute was also agreed by both parties.
The Governor noted that the County Government of Siaya is committed to working with all national government security enforcement agencies to foster peace and prosperity for all the people across the region on their part.
