The chairpersons of Beach Management Units (BMUs) in Bondo Sub County have today asked the County Government of Siaya to partner with them in revenue collection so as to enhance Siaya’s economic muscle.
They argued for their ability to reach out to a good number of fishermen in this process and even ensure that standardization marks are adhered to when offering licenses to interested parties.
“The County Government is underutilizing its revenue potential in the fisheries sector because the collectors are either misguided or remittances are deliberately made to mismatch collections”, said Mr. Meshack Okuku, Chairperson for Siaya County BMUs during a consultative meeting with the County Government through the Department of Agriculture, Food, Irrigation, Livestock and Fisheries at Bondo CDF hall.
In mutual agreement, the team agreed to be in total support of all Government initiatives that will help achieve the development agenda.
Dr. Elizabeth Odhiambo, the County Executive for Agriculture who was leading the process gave an assurance that any collaboration which can lead to prompt service delivery to residents and the realization of the development agenda is always welcome.
She asserted that her office is going to lay down modalities of engagement that will ensure that the fisheries sector contribute a larger chunk of the County’s revenue.
The Department’s Chief officer, Mr. Charles Siso on the other hand urged residents to always take part in public participation to ensure that their aspirations are realized when captured in the budget making process. He added that this will ensure residents see value for tax remitted.
