111938102_193201562228489_704673393630662716_oThe County Government of Siaya and Cereal Growers Association (CGA) in collaboration with FARM TO MARKET ALLIANCE (FtMA), a consortium of six Agri – focused organizations (AGRA, Bayer, Yara, Rabobank, Syngenta & the World Food Programme) is effectively matching towards ensuring better farmer reach/coordination, complementary knowledge transfer systems and enhanced productivity through the Farmer Service Centre model.
The Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) act as key hubs in the farming community, run by rural entrepreneurs, aggregators and farmer groups by providing financial services, post harvest solutions, Agricultural Insurance, Agricultural Inputs, market linkages, research, digital and mechanization services.
30 FSCs selected across all Sub – Counties has made notable achievements since 2017 and its in this respect that the development partners thought it wise to award the top performers for morale enhancement. The goodies ranged from smart phones, weighing scales, knapsack sprayers, tarpaulins, seeds, t-shirts and protective gears.
Speaking on Friday during the award ceremony in Liganwa Village of Central Alego Ward, County Director Of Agriculture, Mr. Vincent Okoth congratulated all the FSCs for the good work in complementing extension services. He further urged them to continue strengthening farmer groups at the grassroots so that the much needed technical knowledge is disseminated evenly across the County.
Francis Oduor Owino of Ugenya Sub – County was the overall winner for leading in input sales and was awarded two automatic weighing scales, a Smartphone, knapsack sprayer and a protective gear.
