IMG-20201120-WA0207The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Food Security, Livestock and Fisheries have today called upon Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to drum their support at all levels towards Aquaculture Business Development Program (ABDP) so as to ensure its prosperity against all odds.
The Department has affirmed that as people’s representatives, the MCAs contribution and support is very significant since their voices alone are enough to create action points.
Dr. Elizabeth Odhiambo, the Department’s County Executive who was leading a sensitization of Agriculture Committee MCAs at Sunset Hotel, Kisumu County urged them to be reliable disseminators of the ABDP gospel at their various wards so that eligible beneficiaries reap massively from it.
“The program secretariat comprises a team of experienced technicians who are capable of delivering the program’s objectives as stipulated”, she said as she further called upon the MCAs to be advising from time to time so that nothing is off the mark.
Chief Officer, Mr. Charles Siso reiterated her statements and further expressed his confidence of a workable stakeholders’ engagement that will propel the fisheries sector to the next level thereby improving livelihoods.
County Program Coordinator, Mr. David Mboya guaranteed the MCAs that the program is non – biased in terms of ward coverage therefore the over 1600 direct and  50,000 indirect beneficiaries will be spread all over the County.
On his side, Hon. Willis Ochieng, Chairperson, County Assembly of Siaya Agriculture Committee confirmed members’ devotion in ensuring that the program is a success and eventually fish stocks around small water bodies accelerate. He said that their oversight role will be guided by the program’s objectives which they believe accords the best interests to the people of Siaya.
ABDP is targeting small holder farmers (Subsistence and Marketers), specialized fish farmers, Aquaculture support enterprises, fish processing plants, cottage feed industries, hatcheries and primary school.
