The Miss Tourism Kenya-Siaya County audition has kicked off in earnest with two auditions already accomplished. On 6th and 7th November 2015, auditions for Ugenya and Ugunja sub counties were conducted at Bykay and Savanna hotels respectively where the winners, first and second runners up were awarded. The beautites were crowned following a protracted runway battle marked with pomp and pageantry.
Beryl Faith was crowned Miss Ugunja after beating a hotly contested field of more than 8 contestants/. The Previous day in Ugenya it had been Racheal Atieno who clinched the Miss Ugenya title. The county government of Siaya has organized this event from sub county level to the county level with the objective of seeking to identify an exemplary ambassador to the national finals. Members of the County assembly graced the event and vowed to continue supporting the events. Present were the Ugunja MP Hon Opiyo Wandayi, The Ugunja ward MCA Steven Otieno, the chair of the tourism wildlife conservation and ICT committee Hon. Jared Abayo, the deputy speaker and west Ugenya MCA Hon. Steven Kadera, Hon Jack Odinga of Ukwala ward, nominated MCA Sylvia Migaya and north Ugenya ward MCA Shaaban Owino Omar. Members of the County government executive also graced the event. In the Ugenya auditions the runners up were Ruth Adala and Ann Asango while Ugunja had Beryl Nyagwa and Letesia Atieno Oswaga.
The ideals of the Miss Tourism pageant is to rally people together, promote domestic tourism and create employment opportunities through talent development. The theme for this year’s pageant is ‘my brother and I’.
