The Siaya County Health Management team hosted an introductory meeting for the newly appointed County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation, Hon. Dismas Odhiambo Wakla, earlier this week.
Wakla who is taking over from Hon. Dorothy Owino, who has since moved to head the Governance Department, expressed his pleasure and appreciation for getting on board the health team.
“This is a special department that must form exceptional strategies because of the nature, circumstances and dynamics of health. Lives can be lost if we fail to act promptly. For this reason, I call on all of us to be vested in teamwork,” noted Hon. Wakla.
He further expressed satisfaction with the department’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic and applauded the seriously prescribed preventive measures.
“Our mandate is to render quality health services. We shall also evaluate projects and address any pending concerns, ” he added.
Ultimately, Mr. Wakla requested the staff to support and allow him to help steer the department in the right direction whilst assuring them of his availability.
The meeting was also attended by the Director for Public Health and Sanitation, Mr. Kennedy Oruenjo and The acting Chief Officer, Dr.Eunice Fwaya, who both emphasized on the team being able to focus on its goals in order to propel health in the county to a diverse level.
The Director of Communications, having worked with Mr. Wakla previously at the Governance Department, concluded by expressing his confidence in the newly appointed Executive. He described him as a leader vast on knowledge and scope who values consultation and teamwork.
