The Siaya-Bondo Water and Sanitation Project which was launched on 30th May 2021 by President Uhuru Kenyatta, through the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, has, so far, improved availability of water within Siaya and Bondo towns.
The project construction started in January 2020 at a total cost of KShs. 265 million and is expected to be complete by January 2022. It targets to serve 201,258 people with consistent water supply and 51,060 people with sanitation services by 2040. The project components include rehabilitating and expanding the Sidindi Malanga Water Processing plant and is funded by Kenya’s National Government and African Bank (AfDB).
In his address during the project commissioning in Yala, President Kenyatta noted that the projects he was commissioning were as a result of peace and unity due to his handshake with his earstwhile opponent brother The Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who on his part commended the president for his resolve to unite Kenyans and initiate development projects across the country.
