The Department of Education, Youth Affairs and Social Services has availed a consignment of assorted mobility aid worth KShs. 8 million to assist persons with disabilities throughout Siaya County. This is in fulfillment of the promise made by His Excellency Cornel Rasanga Amoth, Siaya Governor during the World Disability Day held on 3rd December 2020.
The assorted equipment comprise of three different types of wheel chairs, crutches, walking supports, hearing aids, calipers for both hands and legs, talking computers fitted with jaws, special seats for children and surgical boots. While receiving the consignment at the Education Department offices this week, the County Director of Social Services Madam Maida Nyawade stressed the need to quickly distribute the mobility aids to help those living with disabilities expecially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
On 23rd and 24th March 2021, the subcounty Social Development Officers will be going round the county to indentify severly disabled persons through consultation with the local admistrators and Persons With Disability groups for purposes of appropriating the equipment.
