IMG-20210503-WA0035The Department of Water, Environment and Natural Resources has today presided over the distribution of 7,200 tree seedlings to community members at Umina Police Post as a demonstration the efforts to promote tree planting across the County during the April/May long rains period.

Led by Merceline Amuga, the Sub-County Environment Officer for Ugunja and Ugenya sub – counties, the tree planting activities expected to continue in the next several days will target learning institutions, markets, health facilities and all other such public installations help boost the County’s tree cover which lags behind the National statistics.

This is one of development projects earmarked by the department in the current financial year 2020-2021 and will see the County Government partner with all stakeholders in the environment sector both in Government and Non State Actors. Over 100,000 seedlings are expected to have been planted in Siaya County by the end of the current long rains.
