WhatsApp Image 2021-06-29 at 05.59.31Efforts by The County Government of Siaya, to improve access to modern health care services in Siaya County have received a major boost after The Fred Hollows Foundation, a non-profitable organisation donated assorted health equipment worth KShs. 660,000.00 on Monday, this week.

The support that was handed over at the Siaya County Health Department Headquarters, will tremendously boost service provision by eye care workers, community health volunteers, and health care community based organisations and included theatre caps, gown, scrubs, N95 masks, surgical masks, hand sanitisers and automated thermo guns

Speaking during the handover, the Director of Public Health & Sanitation Dr. Tindi stated that the county is still recording a surge in COVID- 19 and the public should follow the preventive measures placed by the Government to avert the virus spread. He further urged members of the public who had received their first COVID-19 vaccines to visit the health facilities for the second dose which is now available in the County.

“We received 3,400 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which were distributed to ten health facilities and are now being issued on a first-come basis. We encourage the public to remain patient as we wait for further communication from the National Government on increased vaccine availability,” noted the Director of Public Health and Sanitation.

Dr Tindi who was accompanied by the Communication Director in the Health Department, Mr Jerry William Ochieng’ appreciated the Foundation for the donations during these tough times.

While appreciating the support of various other partners to date, the Health Director concluded by urging other partners to follow suit and work with the County in all ways possible as the sure way to jointly and conclusively deal with the virus.
