Mr. Charles Siso, Chief Officer for Agriculture, Irrigation, Food, Livestock & Fisheries and Hon. Willis Ochieng, Chairperson County Assembly of Siaya Agriculture Committee has today led the distribution of COVID-19 protective equipment to over 200 youths engaging in Agribusiness ventures across the County.
The 12 Thermo guns, 28,300 face masks, 75 liters of hand soap, 576 liters of sanitizers and 25 hand washing points were a donation from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to ensure health, safety and financial resilience during this crisis. FAO is working closely with Siaya Agri – Value Chain Incubation Centre (SAVIC) through Agriculture Sector Development Support Program Phase II (ASDSP II) to create competitive agribusinesses and accelerate the development of agriculture sector.
The Chief Officer appreciated FAO on behalf of the County Government, acknowledging the good relations they have enjoyed as a department towards achieving food and nutrition security, with major focus on the youth. Mr. Siso encouraged the youth to use the donation promptly so that Covid 19 remains a fairytale in the near future.
Hon. Willis on the other hand extended his delight to FAO and mentioned that this equipment will not only minimize spread of the disease but also ensure our food are handled with utmost safety right from production to the consumers.
The Corona Virus disease is a global health crisis and the County Government in partnership with various development partners is playing a role in assessing and responding to its potential impacts on people’s life and livelihoods, food trade, markets and food supply chains.
