\"\"The County Government of Siaya, in partnership with the National Government, has launched construction of a modern Level 5 Referral Hospital. The facility will feature a state-of-the-art mother and child complex, emergency and dialysis units, and a 500-bed inpatient capacity, significantly enhancing healthcare in the Lake Region.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Lidya Adhiambo, a Community Health Promoter from Karapul C, welcomed the project, noting its impact on her Pandi village of 745 residents. \u201cOur priorities are pregnant mothers, adolescents, the elderly, and children under five. The new complex will offer more space for ultrasound, X-rays, and maternal care, easing congestion at the county hospital,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Civil society partners endorsed the initiative. Mr. Emmanuel Omondi Obare, Manager of Help Start, a local charity NGO, said his organization has cleared medical bills for over 150 children across several sub-counties. \u201cThis hospital will reduce external referrals, lighten caregivers\u2019 burdens, and ensure efficient handling of pediatric and maternal cases,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Dr. Steve Biko, a health practitioner at Siaya County Referral Hospital, highlighted that healthcare is the county\u2019s largest employer and thus will attract referrals from neighboring regions, creating more job opportunities.<\/p>\n

Rt. Hon. George Okode, Speaker of the Siaya County Assembly, urged residents to support the project and commended Cabinet Secretary Hon. Roselinda Soipan Tuya for her backing. Dr. Martin K\u2019Onyango, County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation, encouraged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA). He described the facility as \u201cthe mother of all upgrades,\u201d transforming a 1970s-era hospital into a modern hub capable of meeting current and future healthcare needs.<\/p>\n

\"\"Governor James Orengo thanked the National Government for fulfilling its pledge, emphasizing that the hospital will address prevalent diseases in the Lake Region while creating both white- and blue-collar jobs.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary for Medical Services, praised Community Health Promoters for driving SHA registration, noting that over 404,008 residents\u201440.7 percent of the population\u2014have enrolled. He assured that the facility will be equipped with modern technology to provide specialized care and generate employment.<\/p>\n

Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Roselinda Soipan Tuya reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment, clarifying that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will oversee project management to ensure timely delivery. She emphasized that while the KDF will not handle construction, it will ensure accountability and efficiency.<\/p>\n
