\"\"The County Government of Siaya has marked a major milestone in agricultural transformation with the official handover of the state of the art Usonga Siriwo Rice Mill to Nile Logistics Services Company Limited.<\/p>\n

Valued at Ksh60 million, the modern facility located in Usonga Ward has an installed milling capacity of 2.5 metric tonnes per hour and can operate continuously for up to eight hours daily. The mill is expected to significantly boost rice production, enhance food security, and make high quality rice accessible to residents at affordable prices.<\/p>\n

Under a 10-year lease agreement, Nile Logistics Services Company Limited will manage operations, bringing the long awaited \u201cMade in Siaya\u201d rice brand to reality and creating new economic opportunities for local farmers and youth.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Governor James Orengo urged residents to embrace large scale rice farming, highlighting the suitability of high yielding varieties such as Komboko and IR in the region. \u201cThis mill is more than infrastructure; it is a catalyst for job creation, improved livelihoods, and agricultural self-reliance,\u201d the Governor emphasized.<\/p>\n

To support increased production, the County Government of Siaya committed to constructing two additional warehouses and modern drying floors in the near future.<\/p>\n

Stakeholders called on the investor to prioritize training and mentorship for local farmers, as well as fulfill corporate social responsibility obligations to ensure sustainable community benefits and seamless integration.<\/p>\n

The operationalization of Usonga Siriwo Rice Mill signals a brighter future for rice value addition in Siaya County .This milestone underscores Governor James Orengo\u2019s unwavering commitment to achieving food security, boosting food production and supply, and ultimately eradicating hunger and poverty across Siaya County.<\/p>\n
