\"\"In a renewed effort to strengthen community health and promote preventive care, Colgate-Palmolive has partnered with the County Government of Siaya, through the Department of Health and Sanitation, to enhance oral health sensitization across the county.<\/p>\n

The collaboration focuses on raising awareness about the importance of proper oral hygiene and addressing the growing burden of dental diseases among children and families.<\/p>\n

Through the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF) programme, Colgate has been implementing school-based oral health initiatives targeting learners aged 6\u20139 years in primary schools. The programme provides practical knowledge on dental care, including how cavities are formed, how they can be treated, and, most importantly, how they can be prevented.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the sensitization forum, Dr. Ken Oruenjo noted that gum diseases and dental cavities remain prevalent, with many cases going untreated due to limited awareness and delayed health-seeking behaviour. He added that through the partnership, Community Health Promoters (CHPs) will be sensitized to educate households on proper oral hygiene practices, reinforcing that oral health is a gateway to overall well-being.<\/p>\n

The campaign encourages residents to brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes, with special emphasis on brushing at night and morning, and night which is considered the most critical time to prevent bacterial build-up.<\/p>\n

The initiative also links oral health to broader health outcomes, including maternal and child health, recognizing that poor oral hygiene can contribute to wider health complications.<\/p>\n

Colgate representative Rael underscored the importance of life skills education and sustained community awareness in preventing dental diseases. She noted that the programme is being implemented across several counties, with Siaya taking deliberate steps to integrate oral health messaging into community health outreach services.
