\"\"Siaya County today hosted the Norwegian Ambassador, Siv Catherine Moe , and a team from Baraka Oprah Kenya led by Rhoda Ondeng. The delegation was received by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Irrigation, Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, Professor Jacqueline Oduol , on behalf of Governor James Orengo.<\/p>\n

The meeting was convened to discuss strategies for developing attractive tourist sites in Siaya County to create employment opportunities for the youth. As part of this initiative, the delegation visited the Baraka Oprah Art Centre, one of their key partners in the region.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Siv Catherine Moe highlighted that Norway has a long-standing history of partnering with Kenya on various successful projects. She noted that while Baraka Oprah Kenya is a significant partner in Siaya, Norway also maintains several other partnerships across the country.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador explained that the Art Centre will provide:
\n* Talent Showcases:A dedicated space for unemployed youth to display their artistic skills.<\/p>\n

* Job Creation:Direct and indirect employment opportunities within the creative sector.<\/p>\n

* Economic Impact:A positive contribution to the county\u2019s overall economy.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Professor Jacqueline Oduol emphasized that culture is central to the county's development agenda. She noted that Got Ramogi remains one of Siaya\u2019s primary tourist attractions, and the Governor is actively working to make it more appealing to international and domestic visitors.<\/p>\n

Regarding the pressing issue of unemployment, Professor Oduol expressed the Governor's concern that many youths currently rely on mining for their livelihoods. She pointed out that mining poses significant safety risks, particularly for young women and persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n

The Director of Sports and Arts, Dr. Sam Mark Okoth,who was also in attendance, stated that the construction of the Ugunja Talent Center is a key strategy implemented by the county government to address youth unemployment.<\/p>\n

However, Dr. Okoth concluded by noting that the center is not yet fully equipped due to budgetary constraints. He emphasized that the county is looking to bridge this funding gap through strategic partnerships, as current government resources are insufficient to complete the project independently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
