Once complete, the facility will give PP1, PP2, and playgroup learners a safe, well-equipped environment designed for early childhood development.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-29895\" src=\"https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FB_IMG_1779094228238.jpg-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FB_IMG_1779094228238.jpg-1.jpeg 1599w, https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FB_IMG_1779094228238.jpg-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FB_IMG_1779094228238.jpg-1-1536x864.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>The centre will also house administrative offices, a lactation room, digital library, resource centre, fully equipped kitchen and dining hall, indoor and outdoor play areas, a meeting hall, a training hall for instructors, and specialized learning spaces for learners with special needs.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative has drawn national attention. Nominated Senator and Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Education, Prof. Margaret Kamar, commended the county\u2019s investment, saying it will improve the quality of education. She spoke when Governor James Orengo appeared before the Senate Committee on Education and the National Assembly\u2019s Education Committee alongside Chief Officer for Education and Social Services Mr. Richard Ogeda.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ogeda said the Barkowino facility is nearing completion and will begin operations soon. Plans are already underway for a second modern ECDE centre in Alego Usonga Sub County.<\/p>\n<p>He said the county is taking this approach deliberately to provide quality education services at the earliest stage of a child\u2019s development, when it matters most.<\/p>\n<p>With Siaya currently the only county rolling out centres of this standard, officials expect others to visit and replicate the model.
