Siaya County is strengthening its health systems through enhanced Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) training and mentorship aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes across the county.<\/p>\n

The initiative focuses on equipping frontline healthcare providers with critical clinical skills needed to prevent maternal and newborn deaths while improving the quality of care in health facilities.<\/p>\n

Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC), a globally recognized framework for clinical intervention, is designed to reduce maternal and newborn mortality by strengthening the capacity of healthcare systems to respond effectively to obstetric and neonatal emergencies.<\/p>\n

\"\"Through a five-day EmONC training conducted by Lwala Community Alliance in partnership with the Siaya County Department of Health, with support from Ministry of health dovision of RMNCAH, frontline healthcare workers were equipped with critical skills in emergency obstetric and newborn care. The training covered labor management, prevention and management of sepsis, management of hypertension during pregnancy, obstructed labor, birth asphyxia, complications related to preterm births, and interventions aimed at preventing maternal and newborn deaths. Efforts to strengthen referral systems and improve the quality of maternal and newborn healthcare services were also reinforced.<\/p>\n

Healthcare workers underwent practical simulation drills and hands-on learning sessions focused on labor management, newborn resuscitation, and emergency response during childbirth complications.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the training, Evans Dr. Ogoti, a gynecologist, noted that the strategy is not only building technical capacity among healthcare workers but also fostering a mentorship and knowledge-sharing culture within health facilities. He emphasized that continuous professional development and mentorship are critical in enabling healthcare providers to strengthen their clinical skills and effectively cascade knowledge to colleagues across the county health system.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ogoti further noted that Siaya County is currently ranked ninth Nationally in maternal mortality and expressed optimism that ongoing investments in training, mentorship, partnerships, and strategic information systems will help the county improve its standing and significantly reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths.<\/p>\n

According to facilitators, the training is expected to strengthen planning, monitoring, and the overall quality of maternal and newborn healthcare services in Siaya County.<\/p>\n

The program aligns with national and global strategies, including recommendations by the World Health Organization aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality.<\/p>\n

By prioritizing frontline healthcare worker training, mentorship, partnerships, and data-driven health interventions, Siaya County continues to position itself as a leader in advancing quality maternal and newborn healthcare services at both community and facility levels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
