\nThe Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development held a consultative meeting with a delegation from Dansal and Associates Limited to receive an update on the progress of the Siaya County Draft Valuation Roll.<\/p>\n

\"\"The consultancy team, led by Mr. Wycliffe Ong\u2019onge, Director at Dansal Associates Limited, took participants through the Draft Valuation Roll that is being prepared in accordance with the provisions of the National Rating Act 2024.<\/p>\n

The roll is intended to provide an updated and comprehensive register of all rateable properties within Siaya County.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ong\u2019onge explained that the exercise was being undertaken to determine the current market values of rateable properties and establish a fair, transparent, and equitable basis for the assessment and collection of property rates. He noted that the existing valuation roll had become outdated and no longer reflected prevailing property market conditions, changing land use patterns, infrastructure developments, and the county's growth over the years.<\/p>\n

To address these changes, the County Government of Siaya commissioned the preparation of a new valuation roll to ensure that property owners contribute rates proportionately based on the current value of their properties. The updated roll is also expected to strengthen the county's revenue base and support efficient service delivery.<\/p>\n

Mr. Madegwa, The Assistant Director-Valuation, who also acts as a coordinator between the consultant and the Department of Lands explained that a Draft Valuation Roll contains key details of rateable properties, including ownership information, property descriptions, and assessed values. Before its adoption, the draft document will be subjected to public inspection to allow property owners and other stakeholders to verify the information and lodge objections where necessary.<\/p>\n

Public participation and inspection process is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness in the rating system. Once finalized and adopted, the valuation roll is expected to enhance revenue collection and support sustainable development initiatives across Siaya County.<\/p>\n
