A delegation from the State Department for Wildlife, led by Mr. John Tumo on behalf of the Principal Secretary, Ms. Silvia Museiya, today paid a courtesy call on the County Government of Siaya ahead of the Bamboo Tree Planting Exercise aimed at restoring and protecting key ecosystems within the county.<\/p>\n

\"\"The delegation was received by the Acting County\u00a0Secretary, Ms. Elizabeth Adongo, who appreciated the National Government's commitment to fostering collaboration and synergy with county governments in advancing environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives.<\/p>\n

During the discussions, Lake Kanyaboli was highlighted as a unique ecological jewel with immense potential for development as a game reserve and eco-tourism destination. The delegation pledged support towards enriching and conserving the ecosystem, with particular focus on the Yala Ecosystem and the River Nzoia basin.<\/p>\n

The State Department for Wildlife emphasized the importance of bamboo planting as a sustainable solution to curb soil erosion, restore degraded riparian areas, and enhance environmental resilience. Residents were also urged to desist from illegal sand harvesting activities that continue to threaten river ecosystems.<\/p>\n

\"\"Representatives from the Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Siaya County through research, capacity building, and conservation initiatives aimed at positioning the county as a leading tourism and biodiversity conservation destination.
