Since its inception, GIS is transforming the management of land information to a more accurate and efficient service delivery.

This achievement was made possible through the funding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the European Union (EU), whose partnership strengthened the Department's technical capacity through the establishment of a GIS laboratory. The support included the donation of Work Stations, desktop computers, printer, Plotter, Projector and other essential equipment, creating a modern workspace for geospatial data management and analysis.

Why Your Department Should Adopt GIS

Precise Decision making: Visualized data on interactive maps helps identify trends, prioritize projects, and support evidence-based planning.

Improve Service Delivery: Locate service gaps, allocate resources efficiently, and respond more quickly to community needs.

Monitor Projects in Real Time: Track project progress, monitor infrastructure, and generate reports through dashboards and spatial analytics.

Increase Transparency: Communicate plans, projects, and service coverage clearly through maps and dashboards that can be easily understood.

Save Time and Reduce Costs: Automate mapping, streamline field operations eliminates duplication of effort

How GIS can Support your Department.

GIS connects location with data, enabling quicker, smarter and more transparent delivery of service.

Health Services

Map health facilities, disease patterns and outbreaks.

Support equitable allocation of healthcare resources and service gaps.

Improve ambulance routing and emergency response

Roads & public works

Manage road inventories and infrastructure assets.

Prioritize maintenance based on spatial analysis.

Monitor maintenance needs and development projects effectively.

Agriculture

Identify suitable areas for different crops.

Monitor irrigation projects and agricultural productivity.

Support food security planning.

Environment and Natural Resources

Map water sources, wetlands natural resources and distribution networks.

Detect service gaps and plan infrastructure expansion.

Asset management & finance

Map taxable properties and businesses.

Enhance revenue collection through spatial analysis.

Centralizes inventories and prioritizes investments

Emergency response

Precise location data improves dispatch, routing, hazard mapping, and disaster planning, saving lives and time.

Public engagement & transparency

Interactive maps and open data improve citizen access to information and trust.

GIS implementation across all Departments will transform the way Siaya County plan, manage resources, and deliver services.
