Willis Ochieng, and Governance and Administration, Mr. Joseph Rading, today joined a team from the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on a supervisory mission to inspect the ongoing construction of modern fish landing facilities at Kokach Beach in East Asembo Ward and Wichlum Beach in South Sakwa Ward.<\/p>\n<p>Each facility, valued at approximately KSh 160 million, is being developed through a partnership between the National Government, the County Government and IFAD under the Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP).<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-30924\" src=\"https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-07-21-at-11.53.11-AM-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-07-21-at-11.53.11-AM-1.jpeg 1599w, https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-07-21-at-11.53.11-AM-1-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-07-21-at-11.53.11-AM-1-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/siaya.go.ke\/siaya\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-07-21-at-11.53.11-AM-1-272x182.jpeg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The investment seeks to modernize fish handling, storage and marketing infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and significantly reduce post-harvest losses across the fisheries value chain.<\/p>\n<p>Currently about 30 percent complete, the facilities are expected to be finalized by the end of the year. Once operational, they will boost Siaya's blue economy by creating employment opportunities, expanding market access for fishers, improving fish quality and safety standards, and strengthening the fisheries value chain to enhance the competitiveness of locally produced fish in both local and regional markets.<\/p>\n<p>The End-of-Programme Mission provides a critical opportunity to assess the programme\u2019s overall impact, document lessons learned, and develop strategies for sustaining and scaling up the gains achieved in the aquaculture sector.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation was led by IFAD Country Programme Coordinator, Ronald Ajengo, for the End-of-Programme Mission of the Aquaculture Business Development Programme (ABDP).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Calvin Awora The County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) for Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock and Blue Economy &#8211; Hon.
