Siaya County, Impact Water Strengthen Partnership to Expand Safe Water Access in Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n

The County Government of Siaya has strengthened its collaboration with Impact Water to expand access to safe and reliable drinking water in schools across the county, in a move aimed at improving learners\u2019 health, attendance and learning environment.<\/p>\n

The partnership, formalised through a 2026\u20132031 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), brings together the County Government and Impact Water to strengthen the sustainability of the School Safe Water Initiative.<\/p>\n

\"\"The engagement was attended by Dr. Kennedy Oruenjo, County Director of Public Health (CDPH), who represented the Acting County Executive Committee Member (Ag. CECM) for Health and Sanitation, Prof. Jacqueline Oduol.<\/p>\n

Impact Water is a non-profit organisation committed to increasing access to safe drinking water in educational institutions through affordable water treatment technologies and long-term maintenance services.<\/p>\n

Since 2018, the organisation has been implementing the School Safe Water Initiative in Siaya County in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders. The programme has reached 640 schools and approximately 289,094 learners across the county.<\/p>\n

The initiative supports schools with water treatment systems, storage tanks and chlorine-based water treatment solutions. It currently covers all seven sub-counties, contributing to improved access to safe water for learners.<\/p>\n

Under the new partnership, the County Government will take greater ownership of the school safe water programme, with plans to strategically integrate the initiative into county systems, plans and budgets. A key focus will be strengthening the county\u2019s capacity to procure and distribute chlorine tablets to schools from the 2027\/2028 financial year.<\/p>\n

Impact Water will provide technical assistance in areas including procurement readiness, maintenance of water systems, training, monitoring and capacity building.<\/p>\n

\"\"The partnership will also support the establishment of a Siaya County School Safe Water Management Team to coordinate implementation, clarify roles and responsibilities, and strengthen collaboration among relevant departments and stakeholders.<\/p>\n

The initiative is expected to contribute to reducing waterborne illnesses, improving school attendance and creating healthier learning environments for children across Siaya County.<\/p>\n

Through the partnership, the County Government and Impact Water reaffirm their commitment to ensuring that learners have consistent access to safe drinking water and that school water systems remain sustainable for the long term.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
