IMG-20210427-WA0232The stakeholders in the health sector within the Lake Region Economic Block have called for the strengthening of coronavirus prevention strategies by counties to reverse the trend of escalating COVID-19 cases in the region.

The stakeholders warned that the third and fourth wave of the virus risks wiping out Kenyans at a high rate unless governors institute and execute comprehensive prevention strategies to mitigate its spreading.

According to the Chairperson of the Health pillar at the Lake Region Economic Bloc, Madam Sarah Omache, Governors must put more effort towards prevention initiatives if they really have the interests of their constituents at heart.

“Our governors need to embrace prevention measures and join health personnel on aggressive sensitization programs in the Counties to help reverse the escalating positive cases.

Omache spoke at Ciala Resort on Tuesday while Meeting health stakeholders from 14 Counties under Lake Region Economic Bloc in Kisumu County. She added that the virus has engulfed India which is the country that others rely on for best medical services and should be a warning to other country’s to step up their measures or deal with the consequences.

The County Executive Committee member for Health in Siaya County Mr. Dismas Wakla noted that the war on COVID-19 is far from being won. “Nobody should believe that our immune system is boosted by vaccination. I have noted that some of those vaccinated have been bragging on social media that they are now safe and yet that is not the case,” Wakla noted

Mr. Wakla noted the need to go back to the basics and that it would be important for leaders to be at the fore front in behaviour change practices.
