Today, Governor James Orengo led a delegation of Siaya County leaders to meet with His Excellency William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, at State House in Nairobi.
The meeting focused on development priorities and areas of collaboration between the County Government of Siaya and the National Government.
While appraising the leadership from Siaya of the Government’s projects in the region, the President pledged that his government will invest Ksh. 1 Billion to develop the Usenge Pier and the attendant port infrastructure to stimulate the blue economy in the region.
Dr. Ruto also promised to construct 16 markets in the County at a cost of Ksh 2.5 billion and allocate Ksh.1.6 Billion in the connection of more than 16,000 households to power to drive entrepreneurship.
On behalf of the leadership from Siaya County, Gov. Orengo read a Memorandum highlighting key development projects that the National government should address in the county in a bid to promote equitable and rightful resource allocation as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Today's meeting has been preceded by yesterday's meeting between the Council of Governors', the cabinet and the Head of State enumerating key functions that need to be transferred to the counties for full operationalization and funding, the breakfast intergovernmental consultations provided an opportunity for the county boss to bring on board all elected, nominated, and appointed representatives as well as key figures from the region to focus on inclusive development the county.
The projects cut across the six sub-counties 30 wards in the County.
The Governor's delegation included Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga, Members of Parliament Dr. Christine Ombaka (Women Representative), Dr. Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Dr. Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), David Ochieng (Ugenya), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), and Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga).
The delegation also comprised County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu, County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), the Speaker of the Siaya County Assembly, Rt. Hon. George Okode, and elected and nominated Members of the Siaya County Assembly (MCAs) and business leaders from Siaya County.
Additionally, top National Government officials from Siaya County attended, including Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, Permanent Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga, and Permanent Secretary for Trade Regina Akoth Obam.
