AVEPO, JOOUST Unite to Transform Siaya Farming with Sustainable Innovation

In a collaborative effort to boost agricultural productivity and empower local farmers, AVEPO, in partnership with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology ( JOOUST), hosted a comprehensive field day at Avepo Farm, North Alego Ward, Alego Usonga Sub County.

The event attracted dozens of farmers, agricultural extension officers, and development partners dedicated to enhancing farming practices across the region.

The field day's primary goal was to equip farmers with modern, sustainable agricultural techniques to increase crop yields and ensure food security. AVEPO showcased innovative approaches to crop cultivation, pest and disease management, soil fertility enhancement, and post-harvest handling.

Experienced agronomists and extension officers conducted hands-on training sessions, emphasizing crop diversification, timely planting, and proper fertilizer use. Farmers also learned about the benefits of adopting resilient seed varieties suited to local pests and climate variability.

The training aimed to bridge knowledge gaps, encouraging farmers to adopt practices that boost yields and improve incomes.

Representatives from the County Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Food Security, and Blue Economy highlighted government initiatives to support smallholder farmers. They reaffirmed their commitment to providing affordable inputs, extension services, and market linkages to ensure successful harvests.
Development partners pledged ongoing support for farmer training programs and access to credit facilities.

The field day underscores the power of collaboration among farmers, the County Government of Siaya, and development partners in building resilient agricultural communities.
