Governor Orengo Launches Construction of Gem Sub-County Head Offices, To Boost Service Delivery in Siaya

Governor James Orengo officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Gem Sub-County head offices in Yala Town.

The new facility, upon completion, will feature three fully furnished floors, providing ample working space to support sub-county service delivery. According to the building plan, the structure will include a ground floor, first floor, and second floor, housing offices and other essential rooms. Additionally, the complex will be equipped with parking spaces and various amenities to enhance functionality and convenience for both staff and visitors.

Speaking during the event, Gov. Orengo anticipated that Yala Town will be a major hub of transport and business with the proposed construction of Phase 2B of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba that is expected to pass via the town. To benefit from this third leg of SGR construction, Orengo underscored the need to confer Yala Town a municipality after its elevation alongside Ukwala, Usenge, and Sega to town status.

While hailing the Governor always accommodating Gem professionals and residents in his administration, Dr. Jalang’o Midiwo, who sits in the Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA), thanked Governor Orengo together with Nyalore administration for initiating numerous development initiatives in Gem Sub-County.

Today’s activity aligns with Gov. Orengo’s Agenda 4 of his 9-Point Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure development as a pillar of progress. As a staunch advocate of devolution, the initiative reaffirms Gov. Orengo’s commitment to bringing services closer to the people by ensuring that administrative functions are more accessible and efficient for the citizenry of Siaya.

The Governor was accompanied by key county officials, including CECMs Mr. Maurice Mc’Orege (Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development) and Dr. Martin K’Onyango (Health and Sanitation), Chief Officers, led by Hon. Walter Okelo (Governance, Administration, and ICT) and Dr. Samuel Omondi (Health and Sanitation), the host MCA Hon. William Kinyanyi, Hon.
