The County Government of Siaya, led by Governor James Orengo, visited both Ukwala and Sega towns today to witness the inauguration of the newly elected town committee members.
In Ukwala, Mr. James Francis Owano was elected as the Chairperson and Josfred Adundo Oyenga as Vice Chairman of the Board. The board will be responsible for town management, enforcement of town planning and development, and maintenance of town sanitation services.
Governor Orengo promised the people of Ukwala a number of development projects that are already in plan, among them being the construction of a modern and fully equipped hospital, a new ultra-modern market, and affordable housing units.
In Sega, the Governor also officiated the assumption of office by the Town Committee, following their recent election. The committee is led by Prisca Duro Muganda as Chairperson, with Paul Oriwo serving as Vice Chairperson and Judith Akinyi as a member.
The further Governor participated in the inspection and official launch of the newly established Sega Town offices. Orengo pledged to appoint an administrator and additional officers to the office. He also committed to equipping the facility with computers and other essential resources to ensure effective service delivery.
In 2023, Governor Orengo elevated Sega and Ukwala, alongside Yala and Usenge, to town status, reflecting his commitment to decentralizing development and improving administrative efficiency across Siaya County. He outlined an ambitious vision to transform these towns into municipalities within the next decade by granting them charters, aligning this goal with Sustainable Development Goal 11 of creating Sustainable Cities and Communities that are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable
