Ndori Market Ring Road Upgrade Accelerates, Paving Way for Market Growth and Safer Transport

The County Government of Siaya continues to make bold strides in improving rural infrastructure, with the ongoing upgrade of the Ndori Market Ring Road to Bitumen Standard taking shape and promising to unlock economic potential across the region.

Today a technical and administrative team from the Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works Eng. Kevin Ajuul and Director of Roads Eng. Shem Ojwando, conducted a comprehensive site visit to assess the road’s progress, evaluate engineering works, and engage key stakeholders in a joint review session.

The project, now in its fourth month, has achieved 68.05% completion as of 11th July, according to the latest site brief. With only 40% of the contract period elapsed, the construction is progressing ahead of schedule—currently focusing on drainage infrastructure and base construction, both essential to ensuring durability and quality before final surfacing.

After the site inspection, a stakeholders' meeting was held at the site to deliberate on implementation challenges, key achievements, and strategies for smooth project delivery. One of the major issues discussed was interference with protected road sections during base curing, which could compromise the structural integrity of the road base.

During the meeting, Eng. Ajuul emphasized the critical role of local cooperation in ensuring the road meets expected standards.

“Community support is central to the success of this project. We are appealing to residents and market users to avoid stepping on or driving over freshly compacted areas, which need time to settle and bond. By safeguarding these sections, we’re directly contributing to a longer-lasting, high-quality road,” he said.

He also noted the importance of the contractor, working in coordination with market leaders, to implement strategies , manage access and create awareness among road users during the construction phase.

The team reaffirmed the County’s commitment to ensuring timely completion of the project, resolving emerging challenges, and maintaining high engineering standards throughout.

This road upgrade is a key deliverable under Governor James Orengo’s 9-point agenda, particularly in advancing modern infrastructure, supporting trade and enterprise, and deepening citizen engagement in development.

Among those in attendance were Sub-County Administrator Richard K'Odindo, Resident Engineer Joseph Oyamo, Assistant Resident Engineer Willys Oketch, Roads Inspector Peter Ochola, and Ndori Market Chairperson Esther Ojuok.
