Sega Market Link Roads Upgrade to Bitumen Standards

Sega Town in North Ugenya Ward, Ugenya Sub-County, received a major facelift with the groundbreaking for the upgrade of the Market Link Road to Bitumen Standards by Governor James Orengo. This transformative project includes the development of a 1.2-kilometer road upgraded to bitumen standard, complete with drainage systems, a 6.0-meter carriageway, and 1.2-meter walkways on both sides.

The initiative is set to unlock the potential of Sega Town, recently elevated to town status by Governor Orengo alongside Ukwala, Yala, and Usenge. Strategically located along the busy Busia-Kisumu Highway, Sega is poised to become a vital economic hub, benefiting from improved infrastructure and connectivity. This elevation and the accompanying road project align with Orengo’s vision to decentralize development and enhance service delivery, opening up Sega Town to increased trade, investment, and accessibility.

The project aims to improve access to residential areas, business premises, and both public and private offices adjacent to the road. It will enhance storm water management, facilitate the movement of non-motorized traffic, and boost mobility for the local community.

Additionally, the initiative seeks to strengthen connectivity within the market center, reclaim encroached spaces, and reduce nighttime insecurity incidents. These efforts contribute directly to Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, which focuses on creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban areas.

Governor Orengo was joined at the launch by key county officials, including County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu; County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Maurice Mc’Orege; his Chief Officer, Mr. Joseph Omondi; Speaker of the County Assembly of Siaya, Hon.
