On Monday, the County Government of Siaya welcomed an inspection team from the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) as it seeks to host the 2025 KICOSCA Games, scheduled for November 2025.
The inspection began with a courtesy meeting at County Headquarters, where the KICOSCA team met senior officials from the Department of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture. Discussions centered on logistics, facility readiness, accommodation, and Siaya’s vision for delivering a successful and inclusive event.
Following the meeting, the KICOSCA delegation, led by Mr. John Angawa, Siaya’s Director of Sports, and accompanied by Tourism Department officers, toured the proposed venues.
The first stop was Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya Town, a key venue slated to host athletics events and the opening ceremony if Siaya secures the hosting bid. The inspection team evaluated the playing surface, seating capacity, changing rooms, and ongoing renovations designed to meet national standards. Mr. Angawa assured the team that the upgrades are on track for completion well before the games.
Next, the delegation visited Maranda High School, touring its expansive grounds and boarding facilities. The school’s sports fields, dormitories, and dining areas were deemed suitable for hosting football, volleyball, and other sports, as well as accommodating visiting teams.
The third site, Nyamira Girls High School, was proposed for indoor sports and additional lodging. The delegation praised the school’s infrastructure and its convenient proximity to other venues.
The final stop was Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), which impressed the team with its modern facilities, including halls ideal for cultural showcases, indoor games, and conferences. The team noted the university’s potential to play a pivotal role in hosting both sports and cultural activities.
Speaking after the tour, Mr. Angawa expressed confidence in Siaya’s preparedness, stating, “We are proud to showcase Siaya’s offerings. With our robust sporting infrastructure, hospitality, and vibrant culture, we are fully prepared to host the 2025 KICOSCA Games.”
The inspection team will present its findings and recommendations to the KICOSCA National Council, with a final decision on the host county expected in the coming weeks.
If successful, Siaya County will make history by hosting the games for the first time, spotlighting its growing reputation as a premier sporting and cultural destination in Kenya.
