The management of Siaya Bondo Water and Sanitation Company (SIBOWASCO) in partnership with Water and Sanitation Providers Association (WASPA) has organized a training on Non-Revenue Water Reduction and Culture Change Management.
The three-day training aims to equip participants with skills to accurately assess water balance, distinguish between real and apparent losses, and apply global best practices like the International Water Association (IWA) Water Balance Framework for effective Non-Revenue Water (NRW) management.
Additionally, the training seeks to develop a comprehensive understanding of NRW reduction techniques, including active leakage control, pressure management, metering accuracy, and data-driven decision-making. These strategies are intended to enhance efficiency and ensure the long-term sustainability of water resources, aligning with industry standards and organizational goals.
On the aspect of culture change, the training focuses on instilling a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. It addresses behavioral barriers, fosters proactive engagement, and strengthens leadership commitment to NRW reduction. This shift in mindset and practices is essential for creating a cohesive and forward-thinking team dedicated to operational excellence.
The training that involved the core management, operations and maintenance team was graced by Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director CPA Isaiah Adipo, Board Chairman Mr. Stephen Oyucho, WASPA NRW Specialist and Data Manager Ms. Patricia Wanjeri, area coordinators, scheme managers and meter readers. Also in attendance was County’s Director of Public Communication Mr. Chrispine Omondi.
This training aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, which focuses on sustainable water management and equitable access to water resources. By reducing NRW and advancing a culture of accountability, SIBOWASCO contributes to ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water for all, a key target of SDG 6.
