The Department of Water, Irrigation, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources is mandated to ensure sustainable management of water resources, environmental conservation, and climate resilience across the county. It focuses on providing access to clean and safe water for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use through the development and maintenance of water supply systems and irrigation infrastructure.

The department also leads efforts in environmental protection, waste management, and restoration of degraded ecosystems to safeguard natural habitats and biodiversity. It coordinates climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives, integrating environmental sustainability into county planning and development programs.

In managing natural resources, the department promotes responsible utilization of forests, wetlands, and mineral resources while strengthening community participation in conservation efforts.

Through policy implementation, innovation, and collaboration with partners, the department seeks to build a water-secure, green, and climate-resilient county that supports sustainable livelihoods and inclusive growth.
