Nyalore Administration Champions Blood Donation to Ensure Healthier Siaya

The County Government of Siaya working with the Blood Technical Working Group convened a high-level meeting at Siaya County Referral Hospital to evaluate the county’s blood supply for the current quarter and determine strategies to maintain adequate stocks of safe, screened blood.

The meeting united key stakeholders, including health sector experts, local administrators, and community representatives.

Blood shortages pose a significant threat to patient care, particularly in emergencies and maternal health cases.

The working group underscored the urgent need to raise awareness and promote voluntary blood donations to address this challenge.

The group outlined a multi-faceted strategy, including intensified public awareness campaigns, targeted donor drives in schools, churches, and markets, and strengthened partnerships with civil society and media organizations.

The county leadership committed to enhancing logistical support and offering incentives to increase donor participation.

As the largest health facility in the county, Siaya County Referral Hospital frequently faces blood shortages, especially during accident emergencies and complex childbirths.

The working group commended the Nyalore Administration for its continued support, including funding for mobile blood collection units and community mobilization initiatives.

As Siaya County ramps up its efforts, residents are urged to donate blood under the slogan: “Your Blood Saves Lives—Donate Today for a Healthier Siaya.”
