The County Government of Siaya, led by Chief Officer for Governance, Administration, and ICT, Hon. Walter Okelo, and Director for Governance, Mr. George Okello, hosted a breakfast interview today with five local media stations to discuss the upcoming Pre-Devolution Conference Innovation Exhibition. The event is scheduled for tomorrow at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, starting at 9 a.m.
The interview, held at the Media Resource Centre within the Office of the Governor, was broadcasted live by five radio stations among Lwasi Radio, Kababa FM, Dada Radio, and Tembea Radio and Mikayi Radio, reaching audiences primarily in Siaya County. It was also streamed live on the county’s official communication platforms, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
During the interview, the duo explained tomorrow’s innovation exhibition’s purpose: to showcase innovative solutions in various sectors like trade, agriculture among other initiatives that are in line with the theme and the sub theme of the 9th Devolution Conference to be hosted in Homabay from August 12th to 15th 2025. The event will also showcase the achievements of the Nyalore administration, led by Governor James Orengo, in enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. They emphasized key development priorities outlined in the Nyalore Manifesto, including healthcare, agricultural production, early childhood education, infrastructure development, and the creation of industries to drive economic growth and improve livelihoods.
The duo outlined several initiatives under the Nyalore administration, such as the revitalization of Siriwo Rice Mill, which supports rice farmers by enhancing production and market access while providing paddy for livestock feed. They also discussed advancements in the blue economy, including partnerships with the National Government to establish modern fish landing sites, piers, and fish markets at Usenge, Luanda K’Otieno, Wich Lum, and Asembo Bay beaches.
Significant progress has been made in healthcare, with six health centers upgraded to Level 4 Sub-County Hospitals, including Ong’ielo Health Centre in Rarieda Sub-County, Rera Health Centre in Gem Sub-County, Ting’ Wang’i Health Centre in Alego Usonga, and Urenga Health Centre in Ugenya Sub-County. Additionally, over 2,500 Community Health Promoters have been recruited to improve grassroots healthcare access.
The duo also addressed strategic plans by Governor Orengo to resolve conflicts between residents of Alego Usonga and Yimbo East along the Yala Delta and Lake Agro Limited. Other topics included managing recurrent expenditure, addressing delayed salary payments, and expanding the road network to improve accessibility across the county.
