On July 23, 2025, a significant meeting took place at the Department of Education office, led by Madam Maida Nyawade, Director of the Directorate of Youth, Gender, and Social Affairs. The gathering convened key stakeholders to explore a transformative initiative focused on women-led climate action and the sharing of indigenous knowledge.
The session featured Madam Rose Wanjala, Head of Women Climate Centers International (WCCI), alongside her team. In collaboration with Community Mobilization for Positive Empowerment (COMPE), WCCI is driving a project titled “Promoting Women-Led Community Climate Change Solutions and Health Research for Indigenous Knowledge Sharing in Kenya.”
Set to span two years, the project will be implemented in Siaya, Narok, and Kakamega counties. It employs a citizen science approach to research, emphasizing the integration of indigenous knowledge into health and climate change strategies.
Central to the initiative is the empowerment of grassroots women, who are disproportionately impacted by climate-related challenges. The project positions these women as leaders in research and solution development, making them the primary beneficiaries across the three counties.
This meeting represented a vital step toward inclusive, community-led climate change mitigation and health innovation, deeply rooted in local knowledge.
