The Department of Public Works, Roads, Energy, and Transport has stepped up its oversight role as it continues to deliver impactful projects across Siaya County.
In Bondo Sub-county, top officials led by Chief Officer Kevin Ajuul, Acting Director of Roads Engineer Samuel Ogeda, and Regional Director of Public Works Architect Aura conducted a joint inspection of three key projects to assess progress, quality, and adherence to timelines.
In East Yimbo Ward, the team visited the construction site of the Ndiwo footbridge, a 36-meter span structure designed to enhance safe mobility across flood-prone areas. The project, which is currently at 26.7% completion overall, has made significant headway on substructure works now standing at 80%. According to Engineer Peter Ochola, the Clerk of Works on site, only 25% of the project timeline has lapsed, underscoring efficient progress and promising early delivery. Once completed, the bridge will serve as a lifeline for local residents, farmers, and schoolchildren who often struggle with impassable terrain during the rainy season.
The inspection team also visited the newly built Bondo Mortuary, now structurally complete and currently undergoing equipment installation. The modern facility is expected to ease the burden on existing health institutions while offering families dignified services and improved access to medical post-care.
At the Bondo Modern Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre, works are at an advanced stage, with 92% of construction completed. Ongoing activities include external finishing and painting. Once operational, the centre will offer a conducive and modern learning environment for young children, supporting early childhood development in the area.
These infrastructure investments reflect the County Government’s deliberate focus on people-centered development. The projects directly contribute to Governor James Orengo’s 9-Point Transformative Agenda, particularly under the pillars of Rural Transformation and Infrastructure Development, Health and Sanitation, and Education and Human Capital Development. By driving these priorities forward, the Department of Public Works, Roads, Energy, and Transport continues to turn vision into tangible impact on the ground.
