Today, Governor James Orengo convened a consultative meeting with the County Assembly of Siaya, led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. George Okode, along with County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers and Municipality Managers at the Governor’s boardroom.
Gov. Orengo outlined ongoing and proposed County Government projects, developed in collaboration with the National Government and development partners. These projects focus on the Blue Economy and maritime infrastructure at Usenge, Luanda K’Otieno, Wich Lum, and Asembo Bay beaches. Additionally, he highlighted progress on National Government initiatives, including Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Phase II construction and the upgrade of Siaya County Referral Hospital. The hospital upgrade will include modern treatment facilities, an expanded accident and emergency wing, a large oxygen facility, an MRI center, enhanced cancer treatment services, and additional parking.
Governor Orengo emphasized the need for legislation to ensure financial autonomy for Bondo and Siaya municipalities, particularly to improve revenue collection and shield Bondo’s management from undue influence. He called for robust laws to enhance revenue streams and secure financial independence for these municipalities.
Reaffirming his full fitness and commitment, the Governor promised a renewed focus on rapid infrastructural development and continued support for development partners collaborating with Siaya County.
He expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for deploying a technical team to outline plans for two key National Government projects: the hospital upgrade and the stadium’s second phase. The stadium’s enhancements include a helipad for dignitaries, an expanded pavilion with an additional 5,500 seats, flexible cantilever terrace designs, multiple changing rooms, and shatterproof glass for the VIP pavilion to accommodate presidential events and national commemorations.
In his concluding remarks, Governor Orengo praised Rt. Hon. Okode’s steadfast leadership during his absence, noting that great opportunities await him for steering the county’s development. The Governor also commended the County Executive led by the County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu for their exceptional work during his brief absence.
