Today, Governor James Orengo hosted the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen at his office.
The CS visited the county for the 41st Jukwaa la Usalama Forum, a grassroot initiative designed to give citizens a platform to engage directly with security agencies on crime, service delivery, and community policing.
As a border county, Siaya faces challenges such as the smuggling of contraband goods, drug trafficking, and the proliferation of illicit alcohol, primarily through Lake Victoria.
The county also grapples with unregulated mining, which has previously caused loss of lives, particularly in the Bondo, Rarieda, and Gem sub-counties.
Other highlighted challenges include sexual and gender-based violence, defilement, stock theft, and hooliganism.
Governor Orengo reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Government, local leadership, and security agencies to address these security and service delivery challenges in the county.
Also present was Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga, Deputy Inspector General (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, Principal Administrative Secretary Beverly Opwora, NACADA CEO Dr Anthony Omerikwa, Secretary National Registration Dr Christopher Wanjau, Secretary Civil Registration Paul Mwangemi, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons George Diang’a, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa, Regional Police Commander Gisiri Nyamohanga, Regional AP Commander Josephat Njeru, and Acting County Commissioner Robert Ng'etich, among other senior government officials.
