On October 1, 2025, the County Executive Committee Member ( CECM) in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Mr Maurice McOrege on behalf of the County Government of Siaya joined the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Union (EU) for a graduation and leadership sensitization at Safari Park Hotel, in Nairobi.
The event was equally graced by the Council of Governors, the National Land Commission, and the Ministry of Lands, through the Digital Land Governance Programme (DLGP) in a partnership with the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD).
The occasion celebrated the graduation of 235 county technical officers, including six from Siaya County, and the sensitization of 141 county leaders.
This milestone advances digitalization and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to strengthen land governance, urban planning, natural resource management, and sustainable development.
The occasion also marked the launch of the FAQ on Land Governance handbook.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including the Vice Chairman of the Council of Governors, H.E. Dr. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga; EU Ambassador to Kenya, Ms. Henriette Geiger; NLC Chairman, Mr. Gershom Otachi; FAO Representative to Kenya, Dr. Nyabenyi Tito Tipo; Director of Survey, Mr. Weldon Maritim; CEO of the Council of Governors, Ms. Mary Mwiti; and Members of the County Assembly and County Executive Committee members responsible for Lands from all 47 counties.
Additional training sessions for Departmental GIS focal points and sensitization programs for departments and agencies on GIS and the Siaya County GIS laboratory are planned to follow.
