In a move set to catalyze economic growth and urban modernization, the County Government of Siaya’s Department of Public Works, Roads, Energy, and Transport yesterday conducted a comprehensive site inspection of the newly developed Sega Market Link Road.
The 1 kilometer road project is designed to serve a growing population of approximately 10,000 residents. Beyond mere transit, the road represents the county’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of its citizens through improved infrastructure.
During the inspection, Sega Town Administrator Mr. Martin Ogolla highlighted the immediate and potential impacts of the project.”The construction of this link road has been a game changer for Sega,” Mr. Ogolla stated. “By opening up residential areas and increasing accessibility, we have seen a tangible boost in local business activity. This project doesn't just improve traffic flow; it elevates the entire aesthetic and functional profile of our town.”
The inspection team, led by Director of Roads Mr. Samuel Ogeda, proposed a strategic extension to connect the link road directly to the Kisumu-Busia highway. This connection is expected to significantly decongest the town center and streamline regional trade.
To ensure the longevity of the infrastructure, the team recommended:
* Enhanced Drainage: Immediate excavation of drainage systems to prevent seasonal flooding.
* Environmental Management: The Town Administrator was tasked with coordinating with relevant departments to address the relocation and management of the local dumping site, ensuring a clean environment for residents.
The visit concluded with a stakeholder consultative meeting at the Town Administrator’s office. The session brought together a team including resident engineers, procurement officers, accountants, and contractors to align on technical solutions and finalize project timelines.
This collaborative approach underscores the County Government’s dedication to transparency, quality assurance, and the timely delivery of Nyalore’s promises to the people of Siaya.
