Orengo in Vienna for the 70th Atomic Energy Conference
Governor James Orengo has led a high-level delegation from Siaya to the 70th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Austria.
Orengo held strategic meeting with Mr. Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, at the Vienna International Centre.
The discussions focused on securing vital IAEA technical framework support, technology transfer and robust safety oversight mechanisms for the proposed Siaya Nuclear Power Plant.
The project represents a significant opportunity to anchor regional economic transformation through clean, reliable and baseload industrial power. It could also unlock new opportunities in infrastructure development, employment, skills transfer, enterprise growth and investment.
The meeting was also attended by Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, Principal Secretary, State Department for Science, Research and Innovation; Dr. Idris Salim Dokota, CBS, Principal Secretary, State Department for Cabinet Affairs; and Justus Ambutsi Wabuyabo, Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA), Eng Collins Juma, the current chairperson of Siaya County Public Service Board and formerly NuPEA Chief Executive Officer and National Liaison Officer with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Together with the national government and other stakeholders, the County Government remains committed to safely advancing Kenya’s modern energy frontier while ensuring that communities are informed, their voices are heard, and the highest standards of safety, environmental protection and public interest remain at the centre of the process.
