The Department of Education, Youth Affairs, Gender and Social Services has begun a new chapter after Mrs. Christine Oyuu officially took over as the acting County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education during a handover ceremony held today.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Oyuu expressed appreciation for the department’s progress and reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
“The department has done well, but we can improve it to ensure high-quality service delivery,” she said.
Mrs. Oyuu also pledged to address key challenges facing the department, including the recruitment of 50 Vocational Training Centre (VTC) instructors for polytechnics across the county.
She said she would work closely with the Public Service Board to ensure the process is completed so as to support smooth training services.
“VTCs play a critical role in shaping students’ lives by equipping them with practical skills they can use in society. This is a key issue I am taking up,” she added.
Chief Officer for Education and Training Services, Mr. Richard Ogeda, welcomed Mrs. Oyuu and gave an overview of the department’s achievements, noting that staff are working as a team to meet their objectives.
He also confirmed that the department has written to the Siaya County Public Service Board requesting the recruitment of the 50 instructors for VTCs across the county and urged Mrs. Oyuu to prioritize the matter to ensure it is approved.
Also present were Director for Youth Affairs and Gender Maida Nyawade, VTCs Director Steve Otieno, Assistant ECDE Director Francis Amolo, County Focal Person for ECDE Benter Jacobs, and other officials.
