County Government, GIZ Align Priorities for Youth-Led Agribusiness Growth

By Calvin Awora

On behalf of H.E. Governor James Orengo, the CECM for Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock and Blue Economy, Hon. Willis Ochieng, today hosted a delegation from the GIZ Agri-Jobs 4 Youth Project led by Policy Advisor Sarah Mango, accompanied by members of the Youth in Agribusiness Strategy Coordinating Unit (YACU).

The meeting focused on preparations for the Western Region Youth in Agribusiness Conference scheduled for 8th and 9th October in Kisumu. Discussions centered on aligning county priorities and identifying practical interventions that will be presented at the conference to advance youth participation in agribusiness and support Siaya County’s socio-economic development agenda.

GIZ remains a key development partner of the County Government of Siaya, having made significant contributions to sustainable agriculture through the recently concluded ProSoil Project. The partnership is set to continue under the upcoming Udongo Ni Mali initiative, which aims to promote soil health, sustainable land management practices, and increased agricultural productivity among farmers across the county.

Also present were CECM for Governance, Administration and ICT Mr. Joseph Rading, CECM for Trade and Enterprise Development Christine Oyuu, CECM for Tourism Dr. Nicholas Kut, Chief of Staff Cyrus Oguna, and Youth Coordinator Hon. Fredrick Opang'a.
