NUPEA AND KENGEN PAYS A COURTESY CALL TO GOVERNOR ORENGO

The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency together with KenGen today paid a courtesy call to Siaya governor James Orengo in his office.

During this meeting, the governor expressed his gratitude for meeting this team where he reminded them that this was not his first engagement with them.

When speaking, the governor emphasized the the stakeholders should have a meeting and develop a good strategy on how to educate the residents of Siaya on NUPEA in order to avoid miss information and also to prevent the residents from politicising this project.

Professor Larry Gumbe who is the chairman board of NUPEA Said that it is their wish to partner with Siaya.

He went ahead but saying that they are working to develop 10,000 megawatts of energy where 2000 will be from the nuclear power.

Prof. Gumbe also appreciateed the office they were offered in Siaya which he said will be soon functioning .He also mentioned that Ken gen is keen on developing an office in Bondo,where they are planning to build the first transplant in Sakwa.

The CEO KenGen Engineer Peter Njoroge who was also present in the meeting said that this project is supposed to create job opportunities for 10,000 local residents of Siaya during the construction and 2000 people to be employed when the power plant starts working.

NUPEA is also working closely with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University,Masinde Muliro University and Kisumu National Polytechnic which will be their training work polls.

The Governor was flanked by the County Secretary Mr Joseph Ogutu, County Executive Committee Members Mr. Agunda Ochanda ( Governance, Administration and ICT), Mr. Maurice McOrege ( Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development), Madam Grace Agola (Trade,Enterprises,Cooperatives and Industrialization),Dr.Edgar Otumba (Education,Gender,Youth Affairs and Social Services),Prof. Jacquiline Oduol ( Water, Environment, Climate Change, Irrigation and Natural Resources),Chief of staff Rt. Col. Cyrus Oguna, Chief Officers:Dr.Kut Ochogo (Energy and Transport),Eng Kevin Ajuul (Public Works and Roads).
