The County Government of Siaya, through its Department of Governance, Administration, and ICT, hosted a pre-devolution conference exhibition today at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium.
The event brought together innovators from across the county to showcase their creative ideas, inventions, and talents.
Serving as a curtain-raiser for the upcoming Devolution Conference, the exhibition highlighted the transformative impact of grassroots innovation across various sectors. From technology to arts and crafts, it provided a platform for both seasoned and young innovators to demonstrate how creativity can drive local development.
Among the standout participants were persons with disabilities, led by Christine Adhiambo. Her team displayed an exquisite collection of handmade beadwork, including stylish handbags crafted from wooden, seed, pearl, and round beads, as well as colorful earrings and bangles. Each item reflected meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The team also showcased elegant leather bags that blend traditional techniques with modern design. Lucy Atieno Ooko, a member of the group, shared the profound impact of the initiative on her life: “This craft has not only provided me with a livelihood but also boosted my confidence and independence. I can now support my family and teach others to be self-reliant.”
Young innovators also shone brightly. Pupils from Siaya Central Primary and Junior School presented an impressive array of eco-friendly innovations made from recycled materials. Their projects included pen holders crafted from plastic waste and thread, flower vases, backrests made from old rags, and baskets and ropes woven from bottle tops.
They also showcased their artistic talents through landscape drawings and beautifully crocheted bags.
A highlight of the event was the unveiling of “Prism,” an artificial intelligence mobile app developed by Zander Yuma, a Grade 8 student. Prism offers visual learning and revision tools, making education more accessible and engaging for students across various levels.
The County Government of Siaya applauds the creativity and determination of all participants. The exhibition not only celebrated local brilliance but also underscored the county’s commitment to inclusive development through empowerment, innovation, and sustainability.
As Siaya prepares to host the national Devolution Conference in August, the voices and talents of its people have already set the stage, demonstrating that devolution truly delivers.
