A collaboration is shaping the future of healthcare delivery in Siaya county following a two-day co-creation forum between the Department of Health and Sanitation, and Lwala Community Alliance. The inception and co-planning meeting convened county health leaders and Lwala’s technical team to align strategic priorities, review shared commitments, and jointly design a practical roadmap for implementation. The engagement marked a significant step in strengthening systems that directly impact families and communities across the county. This follows after the signing of MOU between Governor James Orengo and CEO Lwala community Julius Mbeya on Feb 5th 2026.
The forum was convened by the, Chief Officer for Health Dr. Omondi Owino and Director of Public Health Dr. Kennedy Oruenjo, reflecting strong leadership and a unified approach to health sector reform. Among the key contributors was Dr. Oruenjo, who provided technical insights on strengthening community health systems and enhancing performance monitoring frameworks.
Discussions centered on reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), identifying Year One priority interventions, clarifying roles and timelines, and agreeing on robust monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track progress.
Participants took a comprehensive look at Siaya’s health landscape — including community health services and maternal and newborn health indicators — while candidly addressing challenges posed by fiscal constraints. The dialogue emphasized practical, scalable solutions tailored to local realities, with a focus on maximizing available resources for greater impact.
This collaboration is firmly aligned with Siaya’s commitment to delivering accessible, quality, and affordable healthcare. At the same time, it reflects Lwala’s strong emphasis on community-driven solutions that empower households and frontline health workers to take an active role in improving health outcomes.
Lwala Community Alliance brings extensive experience in community health programming, data-informed performance improvement, and scaling high-impact models. Through this partnership, efforts will focus on strengthening leadership and governance, primary healthcare systems, improving maternal and child health outcomes, promoting availability of health products and technologies, and enhancing accountability in service delivery.
