Siaya County Shines at Nyanza North Athletics Trials

Siaya County participated in the Nyanza North Athletics Trials held on 30th May 2026 at the Kanyakwar Grounds in Kisumu West Sub-County.

The county under led by the head coach Mr. Jared Owino and Coach Mr. Aggrey Ondiege was represented by both male and female athletes in various track and field events. The competition brought together athletes from different counties within the Nyanza North region to compete for qualification slots in the Regional Athletics Championships, scheduled for 20th June 2026 in Nairobi.

According to the competition rules, athletes who finished in the first and second positions in their respective events qualified to represent the region at the upcoming Regional Games.

The Siaya County team registered a commendable performance in both track and field events, securing several top positions and qualifying slots in a number of disciplines.

The following athletes/teams secured slots for the Regional Championships after attaining the required qualifying positions:

Men’s 100m – 2nd Place

Men’s 4x100m Relay – 2nd Place

Women’s Triple Jump – 1st Place

Men’s Discus – 2nd Place

Men’s Shot Put – 2nd Place

Some of the recommendations for the teams include intensifying training schedules to boost the fitness and skill levels of the athletes, providing adequate training equipment and logistics support in a timely manner and conducting regular assessments to track progress and improve overall athlete preparedness.

The Siaya County Athletics Team delivered a satisfactory performance during the Nyanza North Athletics Trials in Kisumu. With several athletes successfully qualifying for the Regional Championships in June 2026, continued support and rigorous preparation will enhance the team’s chances of achieving even better results at the regional level.
