Today, staff of the County Government of Siaya, based in Alego Usonga Sub-County, participated in a sensitization session on the Britam General Health Insurance Scheme at the County Headquarters.
Britam General Insurance Company Kenya Limited has entered into a contract with the County Government of Siaya to provide staff medical insurance coverage from 1st August 2025 to 31st July, 2026.
Organized by Johncele Insurance Agency on behalf of Britam, the session aimed to educate employees about the scheme’s benefits, which include enhanced medical coverage, preventive care, and financial security for public servants.
Britam Insurance officials, led by Senior Executive Relationship Officer Mr. Denzel Okari, addressed questions from county staff. Mr. Okari outlined the scheme’s comprehensive coverage, including inpatient and outpatient services, maternity, dental, optical, and chronic illness management.
He also explained premium structures, claim procedures, and Britam’s nationwide hospital partnerships, stating, “This is not just insurance—it is a lifeline for families.” He further assured participants that the scheme addresses concerns through investments in telemedicine and mobile clinics.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which staff raised inquiries about family inclusions, pre-existing conditions, mental health services, and access to care in rural areas.
While presiding over the event, the County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu, who also heads the County Public Service, emphasized that safeguarding staff well-being is not just a policy but a priority. He clarified that ongoing collaboration with the service provider aims to ensure all staff access quality healthcare.
Mr. Ogutu who represented Governor James Orengo during the session noted that 16 public hospitals, conveniently located for county government employees, will be included, boosting county revenue when the insurer covers services.
Mr. Sylvester K’Okoth, County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock, Food Security, and Blue Economy, highlighted the scheme’s relevance to agricultural officers who often face occupational risks.
The Director of Human Resource Management Madam Susan Raba emphasized its alignment with existing employee benefits, discussing payroll deductions to make the coverage affordable. Mr. K’Okoth also suggested integrating the scheme with agricultural health initiatives.
The session was attended by Mr. Rading Otieno, representing the Siaya County Public Service Board, who reaffirmed the employer’s commitment to prioritizing staff welfare.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to hold follow-up sessions to reach more county employees. Attendees received brochures, enrollment forms, and renewed confidence in the county’s dedication to their well-being.
