SIAYA OFFICIAL ELECTED NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF KICOSCA IN HOTLY CONTESTED RACE

Under the leadership of Governor James Orengo, the County Government of Siaya supported by strong diplomatic representation from Director of Sports and Arts, Dr. Sanmac Okoth, along with spirited campaigns successfully backed Mr. John Ang'awa, Deputy Director of Sports, in his bid for the prestigious position of National Chairman of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA).

The highly contested elections took place at Charter Hall in Nairobi and were conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC). They pitted Siaya's Mr. Ang'awa against Mr. Otuoma fro Busia County. Mr. Ang'awa emerged victorious, securing 56 votes to Mr. Otuoma's 41.

In November last year, Siaya County hosted the KICOSCA Games after their spirited efforts won over the technical bench, successfully bringing the week-long games to Siaya. Beyond fostering inter-county interactions, hosting the KICOSCA Games boosted business and development in local towns. Visitors and participants flocked to Siaya in large numbers, creating significant economic opportunities.

Hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, and the transport sector all experienced a surge in activity, generating extra revenue for the county through the influx of sports enthusiasts.
During the ceremony attended by regional governors—including Kakamega Governor Fernandes Baraza and West Pokot Governor Dr. Simon Kachapin (who also serves as Chairman of the Council of Governors Sports Council), among other notable figures, Governor Orengo was also installed as Patron of KICOSCA.
