Residents of Yala Township in Gem sub County have expressed strong appreciation for ongoing development initiatives undertaken by the County Government under the leadership of Governor James Orengo, citing visible improvements that have positively impacted livelihoods and service delivery.
During the public participation forum for the 2026 County Fiscal Strategy Paper, residents highlighted the upgrading of the Yala ring road as a major milestone. The improved road network has enhanced mobility within the town and its environs, eased access to markets, and supported local businesses. Residents noted that the road has improved safety and strengthened connectivity between residential and commercial areas.
Healthcare services at Yala Sub-County Hospital were also a key focus of appreciation. The residents also acknowledged the ongoing construction of the maternity wing and the casualty centre, describing the facilities as timely and transformative. Once completed, expectant mothers will access skilled delivery services closer to home, while emergency cases will receive prompt and improved care. The new facility is expected to reduce referrals to distant hospitals and improve overall health outcomes within the sub-county.
The completion of the Yala slaughter house was further cited as a boost to the local economy. Livestock farmers, traders, and meat vendors reported improved working conditions, enhanced hygiene standards, and increased consumer confidence. The facility has created a more organized and regulated environment for meat handling, contributing to public health and income stability.
While appreciating these achievements, residents emphasized the importance of sustaining and maintaining completed projects. They called for continued public engagement, equitable distribution of resources, and greater inclusion of youth and women in development planning. The forum reaffirmed the role of public participation in promoting responsive governance and advancing inclusive development in Yala Sub-County.
